It seems that there are more and more people at the action shoots. Like yesterday there were 27 or so people and took a while to go through. I was wondering if there could be more added, maybe weekly plate shoot. I understand it use to be twice weekly if I'm not mistaken and some got burnt out. There obviously is alot of interest in these events and possibly we could increase their frequency? I am new to these shoots but the veterans there are more than willing to show newbies the ropes and it doesnt go unappreciated. So for all of you guys there that share your knowledge I want to say thank you and your very impressive to boot. Just thought I would give my input

It is great to see the interest in this segment of the shooting sports. We actually had 38 shooting slots (some folks shooting 2 firearms) so it did make things run a little long. Back some time ago we shot every Sunday and Monday evening. People did get "burnt" and attendance started to fall. Now it is a matter of time and manpower. When the Spring/Summer 2010 schedule comes out, we may add some additional matches (say on a fith Sunday). It will be nice to get outside again:-)
Gladd to hear you enjoyed the shoot. Hope to see you at the next one.

Any chance in adding a newbie shoot? Maybe a shhot were just new plate shooters can come and learn about the rules and such without the nervous feeling of being around veteran shooters

You really need to just come down and talk to these guys they are great. I have only been to 3 steel shoots but everyone is very willing to help and show me the ropes. If you want to being a newbie as a'm I we should get together and I could intoduce you to it. But honestly the RO as well as the other veteran wont bite your head off for telling them your new. They want you to do that and be safe and have FUN doing it.We need new people in the sport and by watching the guys doing it in 15sec you learn. If you have a question just ask they really are a great bunch of guys.Heck I can do it that fast to after I shoot about 25000 mor rounds  Take a chance and introduce yourself you wont be sorry, you'll probably be better that you think.

They're all newbie shoots. Really. I agree that it can be intimidating, but that doesn't last past the first shot.

Related question, though: does the club have appropriate loaner guns for this sort of thing? (Not for me, just wondering in general.)

We all were "noobs" at some point. (some would say we still are). It is best just to come out and try it. MRA shoots are as competitive as you want them to be. As Scott said, we encourage people to come out and ask lots of questions, be safe, and most of all have fun.

To answer amb's question....We do not have "loaner" firearms available. That is the short answer. However, some experienced shooters might be willing to let someone try their firearm, for a small rental fee of course

Perhaps to relieve some of the intimidation factor, during the "saftey meeting" just before, we could ask if there are any new shooters and answer any questions the have. There could be a veteran willing to introduce themselves and disguss any concerns they have on the side? It is nerve racking to step outside the box but I would hate to think people may not come to these events because they are to intimidated. One could also come and watch and by showing your face a couple of times might see the same person as before and break some of the ice.It only takes you to ask one question and if that person do not know the answer he/she probably knows who to ask. Please do not deprive yourself of trying something you want to do because of how good some of these guys are.Remenber they started somewhere too and have been doing this for years with thousands of rounds down the pipe.It is much better that just shooting at a plain peice of paper. There is alot of infomation to gain by asking some questions. JUST DO IT!! :)

We will usually pair a new shooter with an experienced shooter for exactly the reasons you bring up. Puts new shooters in a more relaxed state, and they can ask as many questions as they are willing to.
